Understand your gut health

What's in my microbiome report?

Take one of our tests to see how powerful a microbiome analysis can be! Look at ALL of your gut bacteria and don't settle for any generic "dysbiosis" index or key bacteria identification!

Microbiome score

The score is calculated based on how well your microbiome performs in relation to some fundamental metrics such as diversity and number of "bad" bacteria.

Target plot

In this graph, you can see every bacterium detected in your sample up to the strain level (the outermost ring). Colourful graphs mean you probably have a lot of different species, which is generally a positive sign (unless many of
them are potentially harmful, like pathogens).

Resilience & Biodiversity

This section indicates the strength of your microbiome, which is determined by the richness and evenness of species present and their balanced distribution. We also give you the percentage (what we call Relative Abundance) of bacterial species that may cause issues, such as Fusobacteria and Proteobacteria. Finally, included in this section are your top 10 species and the resistome score (the likelihood that some bacteria carry antibiotic resistance genes).

Beneficial bacteria

There are some bacteria that have protective traits for you. Probiotic species like
Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium aren't the only ones, there are also bacteria that keep the lining of your gut (the intestinal mucosa) healthy and others that make short chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which may prevent severalmetabolic and degenerative diseases.

Gut-systems bacterial group

In this section, you will find the abundance of bacteria associated with intestinal issues such as IBS,IBD and SIBO. Moreover, we show you how many bacteria metabolize bile acids as they can, for example, impact your intestinal
motility, so how quick or slow your gut moves. Finally, we give you the abundance of bacteria containing molecules called Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) that can cause an inflammatory response
and those that produce TMA (trimethylamine), a molecule that becomes TMAO in the liver and may increase your risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Nutrients and dietary components metabolism

FODMAP are special sugars that we can poorly absorb in the small intestine. However, some bacteria can digest and ferment them very efficiently. If there are too many of these fermenting bacteria, they cause bloating, pain, or diarrhea. You get a score based on how sensitive you are to FODMAPs and how much bacteria ferment them. In addition, we tell you how many bacteria in your gut can produce B vitamins.

What is IBS?

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a chronic bowel disorder of functional nature. This means that, despite the constant presence of bothersome and relapsing symptoms such as constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, and abdominal pain, tests do not reveal any "real" organic causes. IBS patients suffer from ongoing symptoms that greatly affect their daily lives.

Gut - Brain Disorders

IBS is known to be exacerbated by disturbances in the gut microbiome, which refers to the number and type of micro-organisms living there. IBS cannot be directly linked to any one bug, but certain bacterial species and/or their associations aggravate symptoms and cause flare-ups (2)

What causes IBS?

It's hard to pinpoint a single cause of IBS! IBS may be triggered by intestinal infections (post-infectious IBS) or precipitated by major life events that cause considerable stress. Poor dietary choices, excess of alcohol, coffee and spices may also be a culprit. IBS symptoms and psychological distress are closely related, but that doesn't mean the condition is simply in the patient's "head".

Bacterial Functional Gut Test (BFGT) results: what do they tell you?

Based on scientific research, the GutID BFGT identifies bacteria strongly linked to IBS or other functional intestinal disorders. GutID doesn't just tell you if your gut has too many "bad bacteria" or too few "good bacteria", it shows which areas will be negatively affected by this imbalance (dysbiosis).

For example, you'll see if bacteria that metabolize bile acids or Short Chain Fatty Acids (SCFAs) or have probiotic effects are out of range. In fact, you might not just have too many bad bacteria but also too many potentially good ones causing your symptoms. It's all about balance in your gut!
