There are some bacteria that have protective traits for you. Probiotic species like Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium aren't the only ones, there are also bacteria that keep the lining of your gut (the intestinal mucosa) healthy and others that make Short Chain Fatty Acids (SCFAs), which may prevent several metabolic and degenerative diseases.
In this section, you will find the abundance of bacteria associated with intestinal issues such as IBS, IBD and SIBO.
Moreover, we show you how many bacteria metabolize bile acids as they can, for example, impact your intestinal motility, so how quick or slow your gut moves.
Finally, we give you the abundance of bacteria containing molecules called Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) that can cause an inflammatory response and those that produce TMA (trimethylamine), a molecule that becomes TMAO in the liver and may increase your risk of cardiovascular diseases.
FODMAPs are special sugars that we can poorly absorb in the small intestine. However, some bacteria can digest and ferment them very efficiently.
If there are too many of these fermenting bacteria, they cause bloating, pain, or diarrhea. You get a score based on how sensitive you are to FODMAPs and how much bacteria ferment them. In addition, we tell you how many bacteria in your gut can produce B vitamins.
